Throwing Away Plastic Is Like Throwing Away Earth

Throwing Away Plastic Is likeThrowing away earth

We all use plastic everyday. We use it a t without thinking about it and after we are done we just throw it away.

Did you know that it takes oil more that three million years to get created? Oil is used to produce plastic and it takes between 400 and 1000 years for plastic to degrade. Every single piece of plastic we produced still exists and do you know what happens with it after you threw it away?

A lot of the plastic gets thrown into the ocean. There it gets eaten by fish, sea birds and other animals because they mistake it for food. After they ate the plastic they die. Dolphins and sharks get caught in plastic nets. They die. Plastic litter is polluting the beaches, killing all the animals living there. Plastic is as dangerous as a gun.

All of this comes back to us because plastic acts like a sponge. It absorbs all the chemicals we throw into the ocean too. If a piece of plastic, full of chemicals, gets eaten by animals all of those chemicals climb up the food chain and eventually end up in our bodys. A lot of those chemicals are known to cause cancer.

We need to start using plastic wisely. Think about all of those plastic bags you come back with after a day shopping. Think about all of the animals that have to die because of those plastic bags. Is it this hard to take fabric bags with you every time you go shopping? It all starts with small changes because if everyone would start with just using fabric bags instead of plastic bags we could save a lot of plastic together.

Our world is a beautiful place and I want it to stay that way.

  1. What an amazing post and such an excellent topic to blog about! I feel like there needs to be more bloggers posting about humanity and the environment because it really does matter and it’s something that’s really important but it’s kind of an issue no one ever really voices an opinion on because people don’t think it’s ‘cool’ to voice opinions about such things but it’s actually the coolest thing there is, so well done 🙂

  2. I really liked this post, I always try and use the least plastic possible for example I do not wrap my sandwiches into the plastic sandwich fabric. Also at the moment it is very important to recycle as the oil is running out.
