How To Spend Productive School Holidays…

…And Still Have Fun

We all know how it goes every time we get out of school for a while. We promise ourselves that we will use the time to finish some school work or work ahead so we don't have less work later on when we are back at school. And then it happens. Some magical creature manipulates time and we find ourself at the end of the holiday without having anything done. It is like a curse.

We all know how it goes every time we get out of school for a while. We promise ourselves that we will use the time to finish some school work or work ahead so we don’t have less work later on when we are back at school. And then it happens. Some magical creature manipulates time and we find ourself at the end of the holiday without having anything done. It is like a curse.

Luckily it doesn’t have to stay that way. I have worked out a system which works good for me and still leaves me a lot of time for other things like blogging, journaling or hanging out with my friends. Here is what I do:

1. Get up early

The first tip requires a little discipline but once you got used to it, it is really helpful. Last year I had some trouble with being tired all day and not being able to fall asleep at night so I decided to try out a sleep schedule and it works. To keep that schedule up I get up at 9:30 or earlier during the weekend or holidays. This way I also have more time of the day left.

2. Get your work done during the morning

I figured that I can concentrate best in the morning so the first thing I do when I get out of bed is getting my school work done, clean my room or do some other things I have to do. This way I am done with all of this by the time I would have gotten out of bed last school year and I can spend the rest of the day doing things I like.

3. Do a little bit of work every day

If you spend an hour a day doing school work instead of doing it all in one day at the end of your holiday it doesn’t seem like a lot of work and you will remember more of it later. One hour a day isn’t that much and you work more concentrated than when you try to get everything done at ones.

4. Make a to-do list

Making a to-do list of the things I want to get done during holidays helps me stay motivated because I want to cross out the things on my list. It also helps to remind you of everything and you are less likely to forget to do something.

I would love to hear if you have some tips of what helps you study or if you are going to try out something from my list.

Fallen Down…Again

Darling you can't fly if you are scared to fall down. Sometimes you have to take a risk before you can take off to the skyI failed my driver’s test for the third time today. I had a blackout again and almost got into an accident if it wasn’t for my driving instructor. After that, I had a mental breakdown. I felt dizzy and like I was going to puke. I was crying and shaking.

Luckily I have my family and my friends who caught me. My dad was immediately there to calm me down when I called him. My mum quit work as soon as she heard and took me to a crafts store to cheer me up. I don’t know what I would do without them.

What happened today reminded me of the poem I wrote yesterday

Darling you can’t fly when you are scared to fall down.

Sometimes you have to take a risk before you can take off to the sky.

I will try it again and take off to the sky eventually. I won’t quit and will keep trying until I learn how to control my exam nerves. It might be frustrating (and expensive) but I won’t give up. I will keep taking the risk to fail again.

Ski-Jumping

ski-jumpingThis weekend my brother and I went to visit a friend of ours. He invited us to come visit him and watch the Continental Cup of ski jumping, which took place where he lives.

I have been there before and we have climbed up the redoubt (I think that is what you call it in English) before. It was scary as hell because the whole thing was moving with the wind. The thought of jumping off it is insane but it still sounds like a lot of fun. I wonder how it feels like to fly.

Anyways, I have never been skiing and probably will never actually do it but I hope I get to try it myself one day. In the meantime I wait and look at the journal page I made for this weekend and all the pictures I took.

The City Is Where I Go

the city is where I go. It is pulling me its wayThe city is where I go. It keeps pulling me its way. Although I like our little town and I hate being around a lot of people I find myself taking the train at least once a week now.

The people, the lights, the shops, they are my inspiration. I can’t even count the days I sit at home begging for ideas to pop up in my mind while when I go to the city I suddenly get so many ideas I can’t write all of them down.

For some reason, I suddenly love walking through the crowded streets. I love sitting in a coffee shop full of people.

While at home I have to force myself to write and not get distracted, I can’t stop writing when I am at Starbucks. I sat there writing for about three hours straight today while I can’t even focus for an hour when I am at home.

I really wish it wouldn’t take that long to get to the city because once exams start again I won’t have the time to go anymore.

What To Do On A Creativity Stroll

Recently I started to do what I call a creativity stroll. I love doing it and in the end of each and single one of them, I come back with either some great results or a lot of ideas. You may ask now: "What the heck is a creativity stroll?". Well, a creativity stroll is when you go out to either get some work done or need new ideas. There are a lot of things you could do while doing so

Recently I started to do what I call a creativity stroll. I love doing it and in the end of each and single one of them, I come back with either some great results or a lot of ideas. You may ask now: “What the heck is a creativity stroll?”. Well, a creativity stroll is when you go out to either get some work done or need new ideas. There are a lot of things you could do while doing so

1. Take the train or bus

Now, this first one might sound a little creepy, I know, but it is a great way to find new ideas. I usually take the train to get into the next bigger city and go on my creativity stroll there. On the train, I use the 30 minutes to get inspired. I listen to peoples conversations and create new characters based on the people sitting around me.

2. Go to Starbucks (or any place of your choice)

Working at Starbucks- What to do on a creativity stroll

I love going to Starbucks to buy a big cup of Caramel Macchiato and sit there for at least an hour to write or draw. Somehow the atmosphere there keeps me inspired. I am not alone, like in my room, and there is less distraction. When I am there to write I can’t draw because I don’t have my supplies and when I draw I can’t really write. When I am at home I always end up doing something else then I planned to do.

3.  Go window shopping

On a creative stroll, you can go to a craft store or any other stores. Look at the designs of different clothes and try to draw inspiration from them. There is only one dangerous thing about going window shopping. You will probably end up buying a lot of things. Today I went to just go to Starbucks but decided to go to my favourite bookstore real quick. I ended up spending 35€…

4. Draw/ write something random

20161106_144628000_ios

If you have no idea what to do go out and try to draw something that you find on your way. It doesn’t matter if you can draw. Just try it. Same with writing. If you come across a pretty leave, write about it. If you come across a cute boy, write a story about him…Just do something and your creativity will come back eventually.

Do you go on creativity strolls and if you do what do you usually do?

Fallen In Love With A Bookstore

fallen-in-love-with-a-bookstore

I think I have fallen in love and this time I have not fallen in love with words. This time I have fallen in love with a bookstore.

I haven’t just found out about it. It was always there. I’ve passed it for years but I never went inside. I even have been on its roof a lot. I climbed it and yet I never really noticed it’s greatness.

The magical thing about this bookstore is its location. It is inside of a big staircase. Now who doesn’t love that?

A couple days ago my friend and I were sitting at Starbucks across the street and my friend asked me if I knew what kind of store it was and I said I thought it would be a bookstore. We then decided to go inside and that was when it hit me.

All the books this store sells are about architecture, art, calligraphy, typography… I immediately found a couple of books I really want to buy but they all were a little expensive. I could spend hours in that store reading about watercolour, hand lettering and drawing.

Yesterday I woke up ad wanted to do something so I got up and caught the next bus to the train station. I then took a 30-minute train ride and spend over an hour at Starbucks drawing the bookstore I have fallen in love with. Then I went inside, read a little and found even more great books. I ended up buying a small book about drawing and some really cute dog paperclips, which were expensive but I wanted them.

Christmas Eve Breakdown

Christmas Eve Breakdown.jpg

Christmas Eve this year was…well…let’s say different. It all started the usual way. We went to church to watch the nativity play, then went back home, waited a little more and finally started eating the appetiser. After that, we opened our presents. I already knew what I was going to get so it was no surprise that I got my dad’s old phone.

After opening my present suddenly everything started to go downhill. Suddenly everything was crashing down on me. I was mad because I only got the stupid phone, which two people have used before me while my brother got a ticket for a soccer game and a concert. I was mad because I am the one who calms down my dad when he is feeling bad because I am the one who listens to my mom when she needs to get something off her chest because I am the one who tries to do everything right, who does the chores. I was mad at my parents for fighting earlier and for every other fight they had recently.

Because I didn’t want anyone to notice I went upstair to cry but of course my parents noticed. I just wanted to be alone but first, my mom came up and then my dad. They knew it was about them and they asked me what was wrong but I couldn’t tell them. I screamed and yelled at them to leave me alone, I cried. I threw a fit like a little kid and I felt stupid for doing it but I couldn’t control myself. When my aunt came upstairs a few minutes after my parents gave up I pretended to be asleep because I couldn’t deal with her. She left and my parents came up again. They wanted to talk to me but I started freaking out again. I was shaking, yelling and crying. I felt bad because I didn’t want to ruin everybody’s Christmas.

I don’t know what happened with me yesterday but I guess it had something to do with the pressure I have been putting on myself lately.

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas though.
